Photo of the Month, April 2013

This month I was going to have a happy, upbeat, cheerful Photo of the Month caption and blog. But due to some hateful individual, group, domestic or foreign, who set bombs off at the Boston Marathon, that has changed.

Terrorist groups want to keep us in terror. As Americans, we can not let them get away with that. As much as they want us to be scared to congregate and hold events, I think we should go on strongly, happily, to state that we are Americans and we will still function as we always have.

For a little inconvenience, having to take your shoes off before you travel, having someone look in your bags before going in to an event, if that’s the price we have to pay to prove to terrorists that they can not bring down this country with their acts of cowardice, here are my Pumas and here’s my suitcase.

I thought Americans were not used to this. Now, being attacked on 9/11, the Oklahoma City bombing, the Atlanta Olympic Park bombing, and now the Boston Marathon. As soon as we start talking about gun control, they start to bomb. Too bad there’s no cure for crazy.

At times like this I always think back to my father when he would get up from his chair after watching the evening news. Seeing the vivid pictures of Vietnam, the violence of the Civil Rights movement, he would say things to me like, “There’s a lot of bad things going on in the world.” If we were able to pull through the 50s and 60s, we can definitely pull through these years.

Our prayers are with the victims and casualties of this Boston Marathon bombing.

So go out, have a picnic, wave your American flag, show these people that this will not slow us down at all.

In closing, no matter what your political preference, I really feel confident that President Obama will help find these people and bring them to justice some way or another.
