Photo of the Month, July 2011

It’s summertime!  This is when most of Eastern Pennsylvania migrates across New Jersey to look at the Atlantic Ocean.  For me, it’s a time when I can get in to restaurants on the weekends without a long wait.

As some of you may know, I was raised in Connecticut.  I lived a mile and a half from the beach.  In the summertime we would wake up, ride our bikes to the beach, stay at the beach all day long, and come home.  No one checked on us, we didn’t have any cell phones, and to this day it puzzles me that our parents would let us stay at the beach all day long, fishing and playing in the water, when none of us knew how to swim.  It was a different time back then.

Also thinking about my childhood, remember that at the end of the school year, you’d say goodbye to your friend and maybe not see him for another two and a half months?  At this very moment, my son is more connected with his friends than when he was in school a month ago, either chatting online or on Facebook.  I’m also entertained by how the boys come back to school maybe an inch or two taller, and the girls come back looking like entirely new people... well, I guess that part’s the same.

I think my point in this month’s Photo of the Month is that it’s the summertime, and no matter what age you are, you’re going to enjoy it.

We used take family trips and drive from Connecticut to North Carolina in July in a car with no air conditioning and no seat belts.  Thinking about it, that was fun back then.  It’s a time for family.  Enjoy it.  Come September, you’ll be so happy to put everybody back in school and have life return to normal.  So have a wonderful summer everybody!  Stay cool!  I’ll talk to you next month.
