This is the time of year when I do more real estate photography. I really like doing real estate and architectural photography. I love how a structure can look so different when the sun hits it at different times of day.

But what always amazes me is that some real estate agents try to sell half a million dollar homes while advertising them with the pictures they take with their phones.

What many people do not realize is that it is not always the camera that helps to create higher quality photographs along with the talent of the photographer, it is the lighting. Images are so important now, so to put a house up on the market with terrible, terrible images just boggles my mind.

That is your pre-walk-through. And if you can’t make a pre-walk-through look decent on a computer, you know no one’s going to walk in no matter how much money you spent re-doing your kitchen, dining room, bathroom, and back yard. If you do not have quality pictures, no one’s going to want to come and see the house - or mansion. Or castle, or cabin.

I try to photograph a house from the viewpoint of how people will be walking through the house. (Not the way my wife and I did - she looked at the kitchen and bedroom sizes, and I looked at the yard and estimated who I could get to do all of that work.)

One last note on some of these real estate agents. They make a great effort - they wear a tie, they put great pictures of themselves on their business cards, online, and on signs, but then they do not make the effort to get good, quality pictures of your actual home that they are trying to sell for you.
