To all the mothers and the women who take care of family and friends, and any caring women out there!

A mother is the one who probably gives you your first kiss, and probably your first smack.  A mother is probably the first person you love, and probably the first person you fear.  Your mother is the first person you want to be proud of you, and one you don’t want to disappoint.

A comedian once said that you can tell who’s in charge of a household.  If Mom’s upset about something, everyone’s worried about what’s making Mom upset and what they can do to make Mom not upset.  If Dad’s upset, everyone just leaves him alone.

So get the flowers, and get the candy, and try to do something special for moms.  I think every day is a good day to say thanks to moms; a pat on the back, a hug, or a kiss just to say thanks.

I’m lucky to still have my Mother with me.  She’s a spry 88, living in an assisted living community, and is enjoying the whole experience as if she’s a young person in college.  I’m lucky to be a witness to her having more fun now than she’s had at a lot of other times in her life.

We’re going to do something different with my Mother this year.  Instead of rushing out like so many people do for a Sunday brunch or dinner, we’re going to celebrate on a Friday night.  There will be less people, and we can take her out to maybe Longwood Gardens, or we just might sit around and watch her favorite television show: WWF Wrestling.  Yes, it’s amazing.  She likes watching wrestling.  And when the school kids visit, it’s her and a bunch of little boys talking about who fought whom.   My Mother is very young at heart, and I’m very proud of her.

Thanks again for your comments from last month, glad you all enjoyed the flower show.  I look forward to seeing everybody sometime this month!
