This is the season where people start stepping out into the world.  Even a graduation for kindergarten is emotional for people, because they’re growing up.  And weddings, they’re moving out.

But parents realize that this starts the season where they’re going to be home all day long for at least two months, so we have to find something to keep them busy.  It’s funny, we’re sad to see them grow up so fast and move to the next level, but we’re so glad when school starts back up in September.  We’re happy to help pack them up to go to college or find them a home of their own.

Over spring break, the family and I took a ride to Gettysburg, PA.  For those who don’t know it, I’m a bit of a history buff.  It was great seeing the historical sites where Lincoln gave the Gettysburg Address, the pew that he sat in at church, etc.  It’s great to see a truely preserved, historic town instead of something like Disney’s Magic Kingdom.

But after walking through the battlegrounds and sites that have been so well preserved since 1865 (there are a few roads now that wind through the area so you can walk or drive), a thought came to me.  Man used to live in caves, used to communicate with drums and smoke signals.  Now, we have been to the moon, and everyone has an iPhone.  But we have still not agreed on a way to solve our conflicts without war.

It is just amazing to me to see all the techological advancements that people have created, and yet in many ways we’re still just cavemen hitting each other over the head with ox bones.

Haven’t we all been to kindergarten?  Isn’t kindergarten the place where we all learn to get along with each other, and be polite, and work things out?

I don’t want to sound hypocritical, I was in the Navy, as some of you know.  But I think the people who create situations where soldiers and sailors have to go to war should all head down to the playground.  Play in the sandbox, jump around the monkey bars, and have a teacher teach them how to share, and how to play together.

OK, to close on an up note, it is Spring!  It is warm.  People are starting to look around and rent homes at the shore, argue with their daughter why she can’t buy that bathing suit, explain to their son why you have to take two showers in the summertime... you know, the same things our parents used to argue with us about.  It’s true, what goes around comes around, and I’m so glad the warm weather has come back around.

Hope everyone’s doing well.  Talk to you next month!
