Thank you for all the support I got last month while recovering from my major prostate biopsy.  Thank you to the people who sent me food, to the people who came to the hospital with pizza, and all the kind wishes and prayers.  Everything turned out benign, and I’m back to being my normal self.  ...Though ”normal,” for me, is debatable.

I have to give big thanks to my wife who lovingly took care of me for ten days and nursed me back to health.  One thing about being in bed for that long, you really realize how much you usually help in the house when you’re unable to get up and pitch in.  My first day out of bed, the first thing I did was run to the florist and get a big, beautiful bouquet to say thank you to my wife.  She did a lot to get me through it.

There is another thing I learned about laying in a bed for ten days.  Daytime television does two things for you: it motivates you to get up and get a job, and it shows you that your life is not that bad.  How many Whose Baby Daddy Is It shows, divorce shows, and courtroom shows can people watch?

Besides waiting for the biopsy results to come back, I think one of the scarier moments I had was dozing off with the television on and being rudely awakened by the Spongebob Squarepants theme song.  (Ooh, who lives in a pineapple under the sea?)

Now on to brighter notes.  It seems like we missed winter.  No big snow storms, and with this weather breaking I’m definitely thinking about grabbing my fishing rod.  And I know some of my clients are thinking about grabbing their golf clubs and hitting the links.

Flowers are popping up, birds wake you up in the morning singing - Spring is just a wonderful time of year.  People just seem to be happier when the temperature goes above sixty degrees.  You go out more, you wear less clothes.  Kids start losing their jackets because they forget them at the playground or park and come home asking, “Did I wear a jacket today?”  The adult version of that is going in to a restaurant, putting your leather jacket on the back of a chair, then finishing eating and walking out to the car without your jacket.

In closing, I think no matter how things can get you down, the weather can cheer everybody up.  It can keep people smiling and being nicer to each other.  When the weather’s this fine, everything seems perfect.

Thank you for all the comments on my American History lesson last month!  Hope to see you next month.  Happy Spring’s-Just-Around-The-Corner!
